Wash the jars in hot, soapy water. Rinse the jars well under running water to get rid of any soap residue. Transfer the jars to a large pot of water. Bring to a boil and boil for 2-3 minutes. Using a jar wrench/lifter, lift the jars out of the water, tilting to pour out the water. Be careful; it's hot!. This recipe makes a lot; you may want to cut it in half. Measure the pickling spice into the center of the cheesecloth, draw edges of cloth in to enclose the spices, tie into a tight little package with the twine. Once brine comes to a boil, add spice package and boil at a low boil for 10-15 minutes, to taste. Once it tastes right to you, remove the spice packet.. 1/2 head green cabbage. 1 green pepper. 1 red pepper. Directions. Roughly chop or large dice all of the garden vegetables. Combine all ingredients in a heavy-bottom pot and bring to a boil on med high heat. Once the mixture boils, reduce heat to a gentle simmer and stir pot occasionally with a wooden spoon. Season the mix with salt and pepper.
